In the next upcoming Windows 10 (191X) release, Microsoft is changing an API function that AuthLite uses.  All old versions of AuthLite will fail to work properly on the new Windows 10 build, when it is released.

This issue is fixed in v2.3.22, released September 10, 2019 and available from our site at the downloads page.

Affected AuthLite Versions

  • AuthLite version 1.x and 2.0: not affected (don't support Windows 10 anyway).
  • AuthLite version 2.1.x, 2.2.x: are affected, please upgrade DCs and Win10s to 2.3.22 or later
  • AuthLite version 2.3.1-2.3.6: are affected, please upgrade DCs and Win10s to 2.3.22 or later
  • AuthLite version 2.3.1-2.3.21: are affected, please upgrade Win10s to 2.3.22 or later

What Should I Do?

If you run AuthLite 2.1 or 2.2:

It's time to upgrade your organization to version 2.3.  As long as your DCs are all running OS version 2008R2 or newer, you may migrate to 2.3 easily.  The first DC upgrade will require Schema Admins permission, and the subsequent DCs will only require Domain Admins rights.  DCs must restart after install, one at a time.

After updating the DCs, you may update member machines.  For the purposes of this advisory, the only workstations that need to be updated are Windows 10 machines, so they will be ready for the next Microsoft 191X release.  Workstations must restart after upgrade.

Other member machines may be updated or left as-is.

If you run AuthLite 2.3.1-2.3.6:

You must update all your DCs to a more modern 2.3.x build first, then Win10 workstations.

If you run AuthLite 2.3.7-2.3.21:

It is always best practice for DCs to be running a version newer or equal to all other systems.  But if necessary you may leave the older install on the DCs for now.  If you update, the DCs must restart after install, one at a time.

For the purposes of this advisory, the only workstations that need to be updated are Windows 10 machines, so they will be ready for the next Microsoft 191X release.  Workstations must restart after upgrade.

Other member machines may be updated or left as-is.
